Boldyn Networks, the European pioneer in private networks is accelerating Spain’s digital transformation

6 August 2024 | Madrid, Spain

  • Boldyn Networks brings a wealth of expertise in neutral host networks with a single purpose: to unlock the power of an interconnected future.
  • The company connects more than one billion people worldwide and plans to double its global investment in the next 12 months.
  • In Spain, it has already deployed the first private 5G network in the chemical industry at the BASF facility (Tarragona) and oversees other networks in leading companies in the Spanish market.
  • Internationally, it has carried out major projects such as the world's leading mobile connectivity system in the London Underground and the deployment of the first ever private 5G SA network in a European operating hospital.

Boldyn Networks (Boldyn), one of the world's largest providers of shared network infrastructure and Europe's leading private networks provider with more than 60 deployments, is revolutionising Spain’s digital transformation. Majority owned by CPP Investments, Boldyn Networks brings a wealth of expertise in advanced connectivity with a single purpose: to unlock the power of an interconnected future.

With a presence in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Finland, Italy, France and Hong Kong, Boldyn's investment in Spain is part of its European expansion plan. The company designs, operates, maintains and finances its networks to support the digital transformation of all its customers. It has unique expertise in connecting highly complex places like port hubs and heavy industry sites with state-of-the-art technology, including private 5G networks, fibre, DAS, small cells and beyond.

Mikko Uusitalo, CEO Private Networks Europe at Boldyn Networks, said: ‘We are well on our way to achieving our goal: to become the world's leading private networks provider. This is only possible with the backing of a company of global scale like Boldyn Networks, which also has the best talent in the industry and decades of experience in implementing highly complex shared networks’.

Commitment to the Spanish market

Boldyn Networks has already deployed the first private 5G network in the chemical industry in Spain. Specifically, at the BASF facilities in Tarragona, to improve connectivity, process optimisation and traffic throughout the 100-hectare plant.

For David de Celis, Country Manager for Spain at Boldyn Networks, ‘Spain is a very important country in our strategic plan to offer cutting-edge connectivity solutions to enterprise customers and to support them with their digitalisation process. The collaboration with BASF represents a significant milestone for our company’.

Boldyn also oversees the private 5G network of the world’s leader in automotive technology for smart and sustainable mobility, in addition to the deployment of other networks with leading companies in the Spanish market.

David de Celis said: ‘In the coming months, we plan to initiate a number of projects that will not only diversify our portfolio but also strengthen our ability to continue to revolutionise the digital transformation of our customers. We are excited about the opportunities ahead and are confident that these initiatives will contribute significantly to our long-term success’.

Spain plays a leading role in the company's European expansion plans, which includes Boldyn’s agreement with Roma Capitale to implement #Roma5G. An ambitious project to help the Italian capital, one of the most important historical sites on the continent, to become one of the most connected, digital and sustainable smart cities in Europe.

In addition, Boldyn is collaborating with WICOAR Technologies, the University Hospital and the University of Oulu in Finland to implement the first ever private 5G SA network in an operating European hospital, where use cases such as sending medical images and test results in real-time for diagnostic monitoring for the benefit of patients, among others, will be deployed.

Unstoppable growth

Boldyn is connecting more than one billion people and expects to double its global investment in the next 12 months.

Just in the past year it has received multiple industry awards for its acquisitions and business integrations including recognition from TMT M&A Awards USA 2023. ‘We are very proud of the work our team is doing, from connecting industry to enabling interconnected transport and creating smart cities around the world,’ added David de Celis.

Today Boldyn's global track record includes 300 connected public venues, 6 public transport systems (New York, London, Rome, San Francisco, Seattle and Hong Kong), more than 60 private network deployments for critical industry operations, connectivity solutions at 82 US military bases and more than 350 connected university campuses, among others.
